Published local information puts Tweeddale Street around 0.4 miles from the ferry terminal and Albany Street at roughly a 4–7 minute walk. The Rockfield Centre itself describes the ferry port as around ten minutes away.
With luggage: for a ferry departure I would favour the Shore Street/Harbour Bowl area, Albany Street, the station area or the Tesco/Lochavullin pedestrian route rather than Longsdale, Corran Halls or Pulpit Hill.
Council car parks in Oban
North Pier Car Park
North Pier is one of the best-positioned council car parks for central Oban.
There are approximately 70 spaces, with the waterfront, George Street, shops and restaurants only a few minutes away.

North Pier is eligible for the Oban parking-permit scheme under the council’s current published arrangements.
Best for: central Oban, restaurants, waterfront and sightseeing.
Tweeddale Street Car Park
Tweeddale Street has approximately 92 spaces, making it one of the larger central council car parks.
It sits immediately behind the main shopping and waterfront area.

It is also eligible for the Oban parking-permit scheme.

Albany Street Car Park

Lochavullin Car Park
Lochavullin has approximately 65 spaces.
Its big advantage is that the first two hours are currently free.
You must still start a valid parking session at the machine or through the parking app, even if you are staying entirely within the free period.

The pedestrian route towards the station and harbour makes this considerably more convenient on foot than the road layout might initially suggest.

Longsdale Road Car Park
Longsdale Road has approximately 100 spaces, one of the largest council parking areas in Oban.
The first two hours are currently free, although you must start a valid parking session.
Approximate walking:

CalMac terminal: 18–22 minutes
The distance makes it less attractive for ferry passengers with luggage, but it can be an excellent choice for a short visit if you are happy to walk.
Best for: two-hour visits and avoiding the busiest central parking.
Corran Halls No.1 and No.2
There are two car parks beside the Corran Halls.
Corran Halls No.1 has approximately 91 spaces. It is currently pay-and-display from April to September but free from October to March. It has a 3-metre height restriction and may occasionally close when events are taking place.
Corran Halls No.2 has approximately 57 spaces and operates under the normal council charging arrangements.

Market Street Car Park
Market Street is a small central council car park with approximately 18 spaces.

Because there are relatively few spaces, it is worth having an alternative in mind on busy days.
Best for: central Oban.
Pulpit Hill Car Park
Pulpit Hill has approximately 14 spaces and is currently listed by the council as free.
Its main disadvantage is the hill.

The walk into town is easier than the return journey, which involves climbing back towards Pulpit Hill.

Ganavan Sands Car Park
Ganavan Sands has approximately 90 spaces and is intended primarily for Ganavan Beach and the surrounding coastal area.
The council’s current individual car-park listing says that the first two hours are free.
Ganavan is around two miles outside central Oban, so it should not normally be regarded as town-centre or ferry parking.
Best for: Ganavan Beach and coastal walks.

The council’s current individual car-park listing also records the first two hours at Ganavan Sands as free. Check the signs when you arrive.
30 minutes free in central Oban
Selected Inner Zone on-street spaces currently provide the first 30 minutes free at:
- Argyll Square
- Queens Park Place
- William Street
- Corran Esplanade
- George Street
You must still start a valid parking session, and the overall maximum stay in the Inner Zone is two hours.
Free parking at Pulpit Hill
Pulpit Hill is currently listed as a free council car park.
There are only around 14 spaces and the hill makes it less convenient than the central car parks.
Free winter parking at Corran Halls No.1
Corran Halls No.1 is currently free from October to March.
That makes it one of the most attractive parking options for an autumn or winter visit.
Parking for the Oban ferry
Oban is the departure point for ferries to Mull, Lismore, Coll, Tiree, Colonsay and other islands, so a significant number of passengers travel as foot passengers and leave their cars in Oban.

Private parking in Oban
Private parking can be particularly useful for ferry passengers, but individual terms vary.
Tesco long-stay parking
Long-stay spaces at Tesco can currently be booked separately through YourParkingSpace.
The booking service states that the spaces are available 24 hours a day, overnight parking is permitted and multiple entry and exit is allowed during a booking.
This is different from simply arriving and leaving a car in ordinary time-limited supermarket customer parking.

Harbour Bowl is a private car park on Shore Street, close to the railway station and ferry terminal.
Current local parking information describes approximately 117 spaces, 24-hour opening and payment through JustPark as well as on-site payment methods.

CalMac terminal: 2–4 minutes
Published tariffs for this car park have varied between sources, so check the current price on the signs or booking service rather than relying on an old quoted rate.
Good for: ferry terminal, railway station and central Oban.
Shore Street parking
There are private parking areas around Shore Street immediately south of the station and close to the ferry terminal.
Approximate walking:
Town centre: 4–5 minutes
CalMac terminal: 2–3 minutes
Recent user reports describe 24-hour parking at around £7.50–£7.75, but because Shore Street contains neighbouring parking areas with different operators and terms, check carefully that you have paid for the exact car park in which you have parked.
That is more important here than chasing the last pound of difference between tariffs.
Good for: ferry passengers wanting to be very close to the terminal.
The Rockfield Centre
The Rockfield Centre has private pay-and-display parking.
The centre itself describes its location as approximately five minutes from the railway and bus stations and ten minutes on foot from the ferry port. It also has disabled parking spaces and step-free access to the building.

Town centre: 4–5 minutes
CalMac terminal: around 10 minutes
Good for: town centre and an alternative when the waterfront car parks are busy.
Lidl
Lidl has customer parking, but it should not be treated as general long-stay tourist or ferry parking unless the signs specifically permit it.

Forest Developments
The council lists a private Forest Developments parking area at Lochavullin Drive, but reliable current public information about its tariff and long-stay conditions remains limited.
Check the signs before using it.
Oban railway station car park
The station car park has 30 spaces, is available 24 hours and has CCTV.

Current railway-station information lists parking for non-rail users at £12 for 12 hours or £24 for 24 hours.
Parking remains free for rail customers with a valid rail ticket covering the parking period, and there is a 30-minute free pick-up/drop-off period.
For a non-rail passenger leaving a car for several days, this makes the station very convenient but potentially much more expensive than a council weekly permit or some private alternatives.
Electric vehicle charging in Oban
Oban has public EV charging at several useful locations, including:
- Railway Pier / ferry-terminal area

Current local listings confirm public charging installations at Railway Pier, Tweeddale Street and Corran Halls, while Tesco has its own charging provision.
Argyll and Bute Council’s current 2026/27 tariff is 74p per kWh for council-operated chargers.
There is a ten-minute grace period after the permitted charging period, followed by a £30 first-hour overstay penalty and potentially another £30 for a second hour, capped at £60.
Private-network chargers can have different prices.
Because charging points can be occupied or temporarily unavailable, check live charger status before travelling — particularly if you need to charge before catching a ferry.
Blue Badge parking
Argyll and Bute Council currently states:
Blue Badge holders can park free of charge.
Display the badge correctly and continue to observe any restrictions shown on individual signs.
Visitors who require step-free routes or accessible facilities should also allow for Oban’s hills when choosing where to park.
Motorhomes and campervans
A car park accepting motorhomes does not automatically mean that overnight sleeping is permitted.
The council specifically states that where motorhome spaces are available, this means the spaces are large enough for motorhomes but staying overnight in the vehicle is not allowed.
Lochavullin Coach & Lorry parking currently provides spaces suitable for motorhomes.
If you want to stay overnight, use a campsite, aire or another location where overnight stays are expressly permitted.
On-street parking
Oban has Inner and Outer on-street parking zones.
Inner Zone
The Inner Zone currently has:
- a maximum stay of 2 hours;
- the first 30 minutes free at selected locations;
- a current tariff of 90p per 40 minutes.
The free 30-minute period applies at Argyll Square, Queens Park Place, William Street, Corran Esplanade and George Street. A valid parking session is still required.
Outer Zone
The Outer Zone generally has a 4-hour maximum stay.
The exceptions are Gallanach Road and Ganavan Road, where all-day parking is currently permitted under the council arrangements.
For an all-day visit to Oban, a car park will normally be easier than managing an on-street maximum stay.
